the F-troop factor

"There are 4 types of soldiers in the British army.

Smart and Lazy
Smart and Hardworking
Stupid and Lazy
Stupid and Hardworking

You can work or manage any combination but one:
Stupid and Hardworking."
Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery

the Price of Wars

"Victory begets enmity;
the defeated dwell in pain.
Happily the perfect live,

the Right Job for you is...

"If you are in the right job, you should:
  • Look forward to going to work;
  • Feel energized (most of the time) by what you do;
  • Feel your contribution is respected and appreciated;
  • Feel proud when describing your work to others;
  • Enjoy and respect the people you work with;
  • Feel optimistic about your future.

Two chief elements make work interesting:

  • the Exercise of Skill;
  • Construction.

Work fills a good many hours of the day, without the need of deciding what one shall do. Most people when they are free to fill their own time, according to their own choice, are at a loss to think of anything, sufficiently pleasant to be worth doing.

To be able to fill leisure intelligently is the last product of civilisation. And at present, very few people have reached this level.

Moreover, the exercise of choice is itself tiresome. Except to people with unusual initiative, it is positively agreeable to be told what to do at each hour of the day, provided the orders are not too unpleasant.

Work is desirable, first and foremost, as a prevention of boredom. And it makes holidays much more delicious when they come. Work gives chances of success and opportunities for ambition."

  • be more Reflective,
  • be more Courageous,
  • be clear earlier about Purpose."

Wisdom, the Sixth Perfection

"To attain knowledge, add things every day.
To attain wisdom, remove things every day."

Indeed, Wisdom is a state of non-attachment.

The other 5 perfections have the following defining characteristics:
  1. The perfection of Generosity is the intention to give away.
  2. Moral Discipline is a state of being untormented by disturbing conceptions.
  3. Patience is a state of not being angry.
  4. Enthusiasm is a state devoid of the unwholesome.
  5. Absorption gathers the attention to one point.

What makes you happy?

"Health is the precious gain. Contentment is the greatest wealth. A trustworthy person is the best kinsman."

"The very purpose of our life is to seek happiness. We are all seeking something better in life. The very motion of our life is towards happiness."
"Achieve inner contentment. Not to have what we want, but rather to want and appreciate what we have."
"Happiness has more to do with experiencing than with having."
"Good life is not something you get, it is something you do.
It is not about what we have, or what people think of us, it is about how we live our lives."
